Lammas

Panic Room

Lammas is linked in the account to the drowning of Jory Fry on 1 August 1970. The date matters both as the time of his death and as a recurring point in Calensa Fry’s conviction that Jack Harkness was responsible.

The Date of Jory Fry’s Death

Jory Fry drowned early on the morning of Saturday, 1 August 1970. Maris Hemsley remembered the date because Calensa Fry mentioned it often, identifying it as Lammas. The account establishes the day’s importance to Calensa, but does not explain what Lammas meant to her.

Family Memory and Significance

Calensa’s certainty that Jack Harkness had killed Jory was not supported by direct evidence. She relied on Wynsum Fry’s report that, while going to look for Jory, Wynsum saw Harkness cycling away from the cove towards Mullion. Maris recalled that Calensa repeatedly connected this date with her accusation; the recurrence made Lammas part of the family’s enduring account of Jory’s death, even though Maris did not understand its significance.
